Summary

District attorney and county attorney get a new split.

This bill rewrites how prosecution and civil legal work are split between the district attorney and the county attorney in Ector County. The district attorney keeps criminal, juvenile and child protective services cases and adds civil commitment matters plus a general privilege in civil matters, while the county attorney gains the power to prosecute misdemeanors, help with felonies when the district attorney asks, and handle protective orders and juvenile matters. Starting September 1, 2025, new cases in Ector County courts can be handled under this split, and cases already filed stay under the old rules.
