Summary

Same-sex couples, gender identity, contraception and abstinence all in the standards.

This bill orders every Texas school district to teach human sexuality education at grade levels the State Board of Education picks, using state standards that must include same-sex couples in relationship examples, give affirming information on gender identity and sexual orientation, and cover contraception, STIs, HIV, abstinence, and local reproductive health resources. It touches every public school district, the State Board of Education, and parents and students. Parents must get notice before each school year and can pull a child out with a written request, and the bill repeals several current subsections of the existing sex-education law, starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
