Summary
Doors stay locked, but anyone can walk out without unlocking.
The bill requires every Texas school board to adopt a policy keeping classroom doors locked whenever students are in the room, and requiring those doors to have locks that let people walk out without unlocking anything. If a classroom door still needs an unlocking action to get out, it may not be locked while students are inside, and every exterior door of a school building, including portables, must stay closed and locked at all times. The policy covers school districts, staff and students starting with the 2025-2026 school year, so schools must change how they lock doors and may need new hardware.
