Summary
Stand and recite, or silently and respectfully observe.
The bill rewrites the state law on the daily Pledge of Allegiance so that both school districts and open-enrollment charter schools must have able-bodied students either stand and recite the U.S. and Texas pledges or silently and respectfully observe them. It touches students, parents, teachers and the boards that run public and charter schools. Students excused by a written parent request, and students who do not take part, would be allowed to wait quietly outside the room, while the flag display and minute-of-silence rules stay in place starting January 1, 2026.
