Summary

Public works under $100,000 skip the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

The bill raises the cost limit below which a public works project that does not involve electrical or mechanical engineering is exempt from the Texas Engineering Practice Act, from $20,000 to $100,000. It affects governments that build public works, licensed engineers who design them, and the public that uses them. Starting September 1, 2025, new public projects costing up to $100,000 can go forward without meeting the Act's engineering requirements, while projects already started stay under the old $20,000 limit.
