Summary

Caption: caste. Bill: caste and ancestry, defined as lineage, ethnic background or descent.

The bill adds caste and ancestry to the Texas anti-discrimination rules for jobs, schools and housing. It reaches employers, employment agencies, labor unions, training programs, educational institutions, landlords, sellers, and real estate businesses. Starting September 1, 2025, refusing to hire, admit, rent or sell to someone because of caste or ancestry would be an unlawful practice under the same rules that already cover race, sex and national origin.
