Summary

TRS picks which benefits qualify. Employees sign up in writing.

The bill lets school district, charter school, regional service center and other TRS-member educational district employees sign up in writing to have money taken from each paycheck for a benefit the Teacher Retirement System of Texas approves. It requires TRS to designate which benefits qualify, choosing ones that serve the state and those employees. On the ground, school employees gain a new payroll-deduction option for TRS-approved benefits, and TRS gains the job of picking the eligible benefits.
