Summary

A fourth category: whatever the board says.

The bill adds a fourth category to the list of benefits the retirement system covered by Section 824.001 of the Government Code can pay: any benefits approved by its board. It touches the system's board, its members and retirees, and the funds the system manages. On the ground, the board could approve new kinds of benefits beyond service retirement, disability retirement and death benefits without the Legislature listing each one.
