Summary

State active duty and training count, not just federal active duty.

This bill lets state employees in the Employees Retirement System of Texas count time spent on state active duty or state training duty in the Texas military forces as military service credit, not just federal active duty. It also drops the rule that a member needed at least five years of regular state service before military credit could be used to compute retirement or disability benefits. State employees who served in the Texas military forces, including those under the newer retirement plan, can start counting that service on September 1, 2025, under rules the retirement board must adopt.
