Summary

Districts and charter schools provide it when a student or parent asks.

The bill requires Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide a halal option in any breakfast or lunch program when a student or parent asks for one. It touches every district and charter school that runs a meal program, along with students and families who request halal meals. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, schools must stock and serve halal meals on request, using the halal definition already in the Business & Commerce Code.
