Summary

Trigger lock, cable lock, gun safe or case. Every firearm.

The bill requires every federally licensed gun dealer in Texas to include a compatible trigger or cable lock, or a gun safe or case, with each firearm it sells or transfers. The dealer must also hand over a printed safe-storage form written by the Department of Public Safety and tell the buyer out loud that firearm safety equipment is exempt from sales tax. The lock-or-safe requirement does not apply to transfers to licensed peace officers, and the rules apply to sales on or after January 1, 2026.
