Plus respectful talk with people who disagree. Social studies, starting 2025-2026.
The bill rewrites the rule that the State Board of Education must make every school district teach digital citizenship, and adds a requirement that sixth graders complete that instruction as part of social studies. It expands the definition of digital citizenship to include spotting AI-generated or altered content, respectful discussion with people who disagree, and identifying rhetoric that incites violence based on race, religion, or political affiliation. Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, districts must fit this content into the sixth-grade social studies curriculum.
