A population bracket limits the halal-meal duty to schools in the largest counties and their neighbors, not schools statewide. The caption does flag "certain public schools," so the narrowing is partly disclosed, and the adjacent-county clause widens the reach.
Ask and the school serves halal, breakfast and lunch, starting the 2025-2026 school year.
This bill requires certain public schools to serve a halal meal option at breakfast and lunch when a student or parent asks for one. It covers only school districts and open-enrollment charter schools located in a county with 2.1 million or more people, or in a county next to one. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, those schools must provide halal meals on request in any breakfast or lunch program they run.
