Summary

Ask, and the insurer puts the math in writing.

The bill requires car insurers in Texas to give a written explanation of how their appraisers figure the amount of a loss when a person whose vehicle is being appraised asks for it. It covers every kind of auto insurer, including county mutuals, Lloyd's plans and reciprocal exchanges, along with the drivers whose cars they appraise. Starting with policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, a driver can request and receive the formulas and methods used to set repair costs and salvage value.
