Summary
Needs 12 months and 1,250 hours teaching in any Texas district.
The bill requires every Texas school board to adopt a policy giving up to 12 weeks of parental leave to classroom teachers who are new to their district but have worked at least 12 months and 1,250 hours as a teacher in any Texas district. It covers teachers who changed districts and would otherwise miss out on leave because they have not yet built up time at their new job. The teacher must use paid vacation and sick leave first, the rest of the leave is unpaid, and the leave starts on the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child, beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
