Gases released making it, or making the electricity that charges it, count.
The bill bars any product sold in Texas from using the phrase "zero emissions" or similar wording if the product gives off greenhouse gases when used, if greenhouse gases were released making it, or if greenhouse gases are released making the electricity that charges its battery. It touches makers and sellers of products marketed as zero emissions, such as battery-powered goods. A violation counts as a deceptive trade practice, so it can be pursued under the state's existing consumer-protection law starting September 1, 2025.
