Summary

Short terms go from $15 to $75. Old building comes down.

The bill raises the cap on the student union fee that the University of Texas System regents may charge at The University of Texas at El Paso, from $30 to $150 per long term and from $15 to $75 per short term, to pay for a student union building, including tearing down the existing one. It touches every student enrolled at UTEP, with the higher cap phased in at $70 before fall 2026, $120 for the 2026-2027 year, and the full $150 after that. Any increase of 10 percent or more over the prior year's fee still needs a majority vote of students in a campus election, and the new rules apply starting with the spring 2026 semester.
