Summary

Private schools get state matching money. No poaching from other schools in the program.

This bill lets private and independent colleges and universities qualify for state matching grants under the governor's university research initiative, which until now covered only public universities and public medical and dental schools. It touches every university that wants to use these grants to hire top researchers, public or private. Private schools can now get state matching money, and no school in the program can use that money to recruit a researcher away from another school in the program, starting with grants for the 2025-2026 school year.
