Summary

Four years from discovery for a felony, three for a misdemeanor.

The bill gives prosecutors more time to bring charges against professionals who fail to report child abuse or neglect: four years from discovery when the offense is a state jail felony, and three years from discovery when it is a Class A misdemeanor. It touches professionals such as teachers, doctors and others covered by the Family Code's reporting duty, along with the prosecutors who handle those cases. It also renumbers and cleans up the felony time-limit list to merge several 2023 amendments, and it does not revive any case already barred before September 1, 2025.
