Summary
Officials cannot hand unclaimed bodies to medical schools or donation groups.
The bill stops state, local and institutional officials from handing over unclaimed bodies, or bodies buried at public expense, to medical schools and body-donation groups for medical or forensic use. Such a body can now go to science only if the person agreed in a will or other written document, or if a relative or other person legally allowed to claim the body gives informed consent. Officials still have to report and deliver these bodies as the commission directs, but they lose the duty to let the commission take them for science, and the commission must write rules to carry this out.
