Summary

An exception to the ban on working against the state.

The bill changes the rule that bars a district or county attorney from working as a lawyer against the state in any court, adding an exception when that attorney is appointed as an attorney ad litem under Chapter 262 of the Family Code. It touches district and county attorneys and the people in the court cases covered by that Family Code chapter. On the ground, a sitting district or county attorney could take that kind of appointment even though it puts them on the side opposite the state, starting September 1, 2025.
