Summary

Dispatchers join both grants. On the constable side, counties cover at least 75 percent of the minimum.

The bill adds county emergency dispatchers to the two state grant programs that help rural counties pay sheriff's office and constable's office staff. Counties that get these comptroller grants can use the money to pay dispatchers who answer emergency calls for the sheriff or constable a minimum of $40,000 a year. For the constable program, the county must agree to cover at least 75 percent of the dispatcher's minimum salary, and the comptroller must write rules for deciding who counts as a qualified dispatcher.
