Summary

The cutoff drops from 150,000.

The bill lowers the population cutoff that lets a county build and run a parking lot or parking garage next to or near its courthouse, from 150,000 people to 40,000 people. It touches mid-sized counties that were too small to use this power before, along with their commissioners courts and taxpayers. Counties with at least 40,000 residents may now choose to build, expand, equip and operate courthouse parking starting September 1, 2025.
