Summary

Counties of 50,000 to 300,000 get the $500K tier. The comptroller decides what counts as significant.

The bill changes how much money the state comptroller gives counties under the rural sheriff's office salary assistance grant program. Small and mid-sized counties with what the comptroller deems significant critical infrastructure inside their borders get a bigger grant tier, and counties with a population of 50,000 to 300,000 get the $500,000 tier. The comptroller must write rules for deciding which infrastructure counts as significant, and the new amounts apply to county fiscal years starting on or after September 1, 2025.
