Summary

The department “may” adopt a gender-responsive version. No duty, no deadline, no consequence.

The bill lets the Texas prison system adopt a separate version of its offender risk and needs assessment tool built for a specific gender. It touches the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the adults in the state criminal justice system who are assessed with that tool. Nothing has to change on the ground, because the department may build the gender-specific version but is never required to.
