Summary

Parenting classes and state jail facilities join the list.

The bill orders the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to adopt policies that widen female inmates' access to prison programs, adding parenting classes and state jail facilities to the list. Each facility must make those programs available to a female inmate within 45 days of arrival, offer women opportunities equal to men's including master's-level courses, and keep vocational training tied to current job demand, without cutting men's access. The department must also file and post a yearly report by December 31 listing policy changes and the programs offered to women.
