Summary

TxDOT pays for fixes to dust, noise and damaged structures.

The bill orders the Texas Department of Transportation to set up a grant program that pays for fixes to the harm that state highway construction does to nearby neighborhoods, such as dust, noise, air quality, moved fences and damaged structures. Owners of homes, duplexes and apartment buildings, qualifying religious organizations, and school districts with property within 500 feet of a highway project can apply. Metropolitan planning organizations and local authorities must make sure the department offers the program for every highway project in their area, and the department does not have to comply until January 1, 2026.
