THE TEXT

…“not later than December 1, 2026, report to the legislature”…

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The only duty is a study and a report. Any change in policing waits for later action, and the model policies are only ones that 'may be adopted' by agencies.

Summary

Report due December 1, 2026. Model policies are optional, and the section expires January 1, 2027!

The bill orders the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to study racial profiling by peace officers and send the Legislature recommended model policies by December 1, 2026. It touches the commission, and it uses the stop data that local law enforcement agencies already submit. Nothing changes on the ground for officers or drivers, because the recommendations are optional for agencies and the section expires January 1, 2027.
