How many went, and how many died there. Due February 1.
The bill requires every county jail to send the Texas Commission on Jail Standards a yearly report by February 1 on how many of its prisoners were held in out-of-state jails because of overcrowding, and how many of them died there. The commission must create the report form and send a summary to the governor, lieutenant governor, speaker and the relevant legislative committees by March 1 each year. Counties gain a new paperwork duty, and state leaders get a yearly count of out-of-state jail transfers and deaths starting September 1, 2025.
