The bill requires the state health commission to send yearly written notice to Medicaid managed care plans, hospitals and other providers who treat pregnant women and newborns, reminding them that a mother's Medicaid ID number can be used on claims for a newborn who has not yet been assigned one. It also requires hospitals, birthing centers, physicians and midwives to give new parents information about Medicaid benefits for children. Mothers on Medicaid must also get information on how to report the birth to enroll the baby, plus a notice that the newborn is automatically eligible and can be billed under the mother's number until enrolled, with providers required to comply starting January 1, 2026.
