Summary

Heart attack or stroke deaths on duty, or within 24 hours, count.

This bill rewrites the rule for which survivors of public safety workers can get state death assistance, so a death from a heart attack or stroke during line-of-duty work, or within 24 hours after it, counts alongside a death from an injury on the job. It touches the spouses, children and parents of the workers listed in Chapter 615 of the Government Code. Families of a worker who dies this way on or after September 1, 2025, can qualify for the payment, while earlier deaths stay under the old law.
