Summary

Your license lasts about ten years instead of about eight.

The bill lengthens how long a Texas driver's license lasts, from about eight years to about ten years for citizens, nationals, permanent residents, refugees and asylees. It also raises the outer limit for other non-citizen license holders from six to ten years, though their licenses still end when their lawful presence ends, or after one year if their stay has no set end date. Starting September 1, 2025, new and renewed licenses will need renewing less often, while licenses issued earlier keep their old expiration rules.
