The license ban covers any person who offers 'psychosocial support' to sick children or the children of sick adults to help them cope, with no exception in the text for nurses, doctors, counselors, chaplains or volunteers. That reaches well past a profession of child life specialists.

Caption from analyzed text · version I.

Summary

Doctors, nurses, chaplains and volunteers get no exception. The license costs $120.

The bill creates a new state license for child life specialists, sets fees ($120 to license, $90 per specialty certification, and renewal fees), and bars anyone without the license from offering or providing child life services starting March 1, 2026. It touches people who give coping and emotional support to sick children or to the children of seriously ill adults, along with the Health and Human Services Commission, Medicaid, and most private and state employee health plans. On the ground, these specialists get their own Medicaid provider type and payment, and health plans must cover their services, in person or by telehealth, for plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
