Summary
Small means under 3,000 students. They help those districts sign up for state and federal programs.
The bill requires each regional education service center that serves small school districts, those with fewer than 3,000 students, to hire and train technical assistant superintendents. It sets a ratio of one such superintendent for every three small districts in the region, and their job is to help those districts sign up for state and federal programs such as the teacher incentive allotment, school safety grants and the rural pathway program. The new staff can travel to their assigned districts for in-person support, the education commissioner may check that centers comply, and the rule applies starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
