Summary

Two existing programs become part of the required curriculum.

The bill makes two existing state training programs for peace officers, one on acquired and traumatic brain injuries and one on trauma-affected veterans, part of the required basic curriculum. It touches new officer trainees and current officers, who must complete the training unless they already took it in basic training or took equivalent training the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement accepts. On the ground, the commission must write rules making the courses mandatory, and new trainees who start on or after January 1, 2026 get them as part of basic training.
