Summary

Searchable or sortable format, using software they already have.

The bill makes Texas government bodies hand over spreadsheet and database records in a searchable or sortable electronic format when a requester asks, using the software they already use. It reaches every governmental body covered by the public information law, including records held by third-party contractors, and it repeals the old section that let agencies avoid producing data that needed programming or manipulation. Agencies can no longer refuse a request just because pulling the data takes filters, searches or report commands their own software can run, and the change applies to requests received on or after September 1, 2025.
