Summary

3 years becomes 97. 10 years becomes 99!

The bill stretches the deadlines for suing to get back land that someone else is holding by adverse possession: from 3 years to 97 years, from 5 years to 98 years, and from 10 years to 99 years. It also repeals a separate adverse-possession limitations section, Section 16.027, and removes the reference to it in the rule for people under a legal disability. Landowners get nearly a century to reclaim their property, and squatters or long-term occupants can almost never win title just by holding land for a set period, starting September 1, 2025.
