Summary
Research and creative work fall outside the ban, federal grant money included.
The bill widens an existing exception to the state ban on diversity, equity, and inclusion offices and programs at public colleges and universities. It covers scholarly research or creative work, including work paid for in whole or part by federal grants or other money, by students, faculty, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and other research personnel, plus the sharing of that work. On campus, more research activity and the people doing it fall outside the DEI ban, and the change takes effect immediately or on September 1, 2025.
