Summary

Six percent becomes three percent simple interest.

The bill cuts the interest rate on overdue child support in Texas from six percent to three percent simple interest per year. It touches parents who owe back child support and the parents and children waiting to be paid. For support that comes due, or court judgments entered, on or after January 1, 2026, debts grow more slowly, while older debts and judgments keep the old rate up to that date.

SECTION 2. Sections 157.265(d), (e), and (f), Family Code,

are repealed.

SECTION 3. (a) Section 157.265(a), Family Code, as amended

by this Act, applies to a child support payment that becomes due on

(1) before January 1, 2002, the arrearages are subject

to the interest rate that applied to the arrearages before that

date;
