Summary

The division that pays state aid signs off now.

The bill moves final approval of each local probation department's budget and strategic plan away from the local district and county judges and gives it to the state division that pays out state aid. Judges who set up these community supervision and corrections departments would only review the budget and plan after the state division approves them, and departments must submit both to the division by March 1 of each even-numbered year. On the ground, state aid to a department depends on the state division's approval, and local judges lose their sign-off power over the department's money and plans.
