Summary

Expands the existing tuition and lab fee waiver.

The bill widens an existing rule that makes Texas public colleges waive tuition and lab fees for peace officers employed by the state or a local government. It removes the limit to undergraduates and to criminal justice or law enforcement courses, and it defines a 'law enforcement-related' degree to include fields like law, nursing, psychology, business, foreign languages, biology and computer science. Starting in fall 2025, an officer making satisfactory progress in any of those programs, including graduate programs, can get every course in the program tuition-free, and colleges absorb the cost.
