Summary
Rejected books can’t be checked out or used “outside the school library.” Inside, read away!
The bill has the State Board of Education post an online form that lets any parent ask the board to review a school library book they think is wrong for a grade level or sexually explicit. The board must decide within three weeks and put the book on a public approved or rejected list, or send it to the Texas Education Agency, which also has three weeks to decide. While a review is pending, or after a book is rejected, public and charter schools may not let students in the affected grades check it out, reserve it, or use it outside the library.
