The bill raises the penalty for the existing offense of making a firearm accessible to a child from a Class C misdemeanor to a Class A misdemeanor. It also repeals Subsection (e), which, judging by the deleted cross-reference, carried its own penalty rule, so every violation of Section 46.13 is now a Class A misdemeanor. Gun owners who leave a firearm where a child can reach it face the higher penalty for conduct on or after September 1, 2025.
