Summary

Therapists and audiologists can verify too. DPS learns speech, hearing or autism, nothing else.

The bill changes the voluntary checkbox on Texas vehicle registration forms where a driver can flag a health condition or disability that may make talking with a police officer hard. It widens the list of providers who can verify the condition, adding speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, audiologists, school psychologists and other health care providers. It also requires the motor vehicle department to tell the Department of Public Safety whether a flagged condition is a speech or language impairment, a hearing impairment, or autism, while still barring it from sharing any other detail about the type of condition.

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The bill has the vehicle registration agency pass a category of a driver's voluntarily disclosed health condition to the state police agency, which until now got only the fact that a condition existed.
