Summary

Permit within two business days, no fee. Start building once the approval notice is in.

The bill lets a private, authorized third-party reviewer check the plans for and inspect a home backup power system, such as a generator or battery for a one- or two-family home, without first going through the city or county. Local permitting offices must post or quickly send the rules reviewers need, issue the permit within two business days of the reviewer's approval notice, and charge no fee for any third-party review under the chapter. Homeowners and installers can start building a backup power system as soon as the approval notice is submitted, instead of waiting on the local office.
