THE TEXT

“The department, using existing resources, may reimburse”…

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The only operative verb is permissive "may," with no new money, so employees gain no right to be paid. It is still a real grant of spending authority, and the caption does not promise a guaranteed payment, so confidence is low.

Summary

Client wrecks a caseworker’s property? The department may pay. Or not.

The bill lets the Department of Family and Protective Services pay back current or former employees when a client damages or destroys their personal property while the employee is on the job. It touches caseworkers and other department staff who deal with clients in the field. The department is allowed but not required to pay, and it must use money it already has, so any reimbursement depends on the agency choosing to spend from its existing budget.
