Summary

Juvenile boards and probation departments can get career program grants.

The bill adds the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, juvenile boards, and juvenile probation departments to the list of entities that can get state JET grants for starting new career and technical education programs. It touches the Texas Workforce Commission, which awards these grants, and the youth held in or supervised by juvenile justice facilities, including facilities run by private vendors under contract. On the ground, juvenile justice agencies can apply for start-up money for job-training courses, and the commission may favor programs that bring new training into juvenile facilities.
