Summary

Start-up money for new career and technical education programs.

The bill lets the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, county juvenile boards and juvenile probation departments apply for state Jobs and Education for Texans grants that pay start-up costs for new career and technical education programs. It touches the state workforce agency that awards these grants and the juvenile justice agencies that run schooling for youth in their custody, including facilities run by private vendors under contract. On the ground, youth in juvenile facilities can get new job-training courses if their agency applies and wins a grant, and the agency may give extra weight to programs new to those facilities.
