relating to Medicaid coverage and reimbursement for emergency
outpatient dialysis treatment provided to certain individuals with
end stage renal disease.
Scheduled, outpatient, and officially an emergency. Medicaid picks up the tab.
The bill tells the state Medicaid agency that regular outpatient dialysis counts as emergency care for people with end stage kidney disease who qualify only for emergency-only Medicaid under Section 1903(v) of the federal Social Security Act. It touches those patients, the hospitals and dialysis centers that treat them, and the state Medicaid budget. On the ground, Medicaid would pay for scheduled outpatient dialysis for this group starting September 1, 2025, though the agency may delay if it needs federal approval first.
