Summary

Even when the supervising physician is out of network.

The bill lets HMOs contract directly with advanced practice registered nurses, and lets PPO insurers list them as preferred providers, even when the nurse's supervising physician is not in that network. It touches nurse practitioners and similar advanced nurses, HMOs, PPO insurers, and patients in those plans. Insurers gain the option to bring these nurses into their networks on their own, but nothing forces them to, and the bill says insurers still may not control the practice of medicine.
